This summer we introduced EnVsion’s pricing plans, which included a free and paid tier. The paid tier was in British pounds (i.e. GBP) because we live in the UK and also expected most of our customers to be UK-based.
However, over time we’ve seen that a lot of our website visits and even sign ups occur from outside the UK.
To be fair, I should have known this would happen. The US market is much larger than the UK. Besides, as a company with international ambitions we expect to win more customers outside the UK.
Through our heatmaps software I sometimes replay visitor sessions and see that there is some hesitancy when they arrive at the pricing section of our website. My hunch tells me that the GBP currency we display could negatively impact their decision to try the product.
So we’re going to charge in USD from now on.
I don’t expect this move to be the panacea that solves all our conversion problems, but I think it can help. Making this update just requires a small set of code and config changes so it’s quick and easy to execute.
While new customers will be charged in USD, our existing ones will keep being charged in GBP. They won’t experience the slight price hike either. We want to make sure they’re happily grandfathered :).
I’m very curious to see what impact this will have on the decision-making process of upcoming visitors of our landing page.
Wish us luck, and MRR (in $).
